In connection with the anniversary year, 2 member objects were designed by Hans van Bentum.
The sculptures designed by Hans van Bentem represent two of our senses: seeing and tasting. These two senses, called “Eye” and “Tongue” by Van Bentem, have been placed by the artist on a silver pedestal of mold-blown glass, showing how important they are to our daily functioning.
The formal language of these objects is a recurring theme in his work and gives the viewer much food for thought.
Those who want to see an eye in “Eye” will get what they desire. He who wants to give free rein to his imagination will not be disappointed either.
Seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting, it is these five senses to which Van Bentem’s work constantly appeals.
He could not have come up with a better design for a member object!
So says the advisory committee consisting of Titus M. Eliëns, art historian and former head of collections at the Gemeentemuseum The Hague and professor of Industrial Design at Leiden University and Matisse Etienne of Galerie Etienne in Oisterwijk and Barbara Nanning, designer of the 2014 member object.
Eye dimensions 19.5 cm wide and 32.5 cm high.
Tongue dimensions 17 cm wide and 51 cm high.
